June 24 – You and Your Lake: Life on the Lake

Would you like to learn more about our inland lakes? The Higgins Lake Foundation has partnered with the MSU Extension Office to provide a free one-day seminar at the R.A. MacMullan Center June 24 from 9am – 3pm. Speakers include several members of the MSU Extension Water Resource Management and Education Team: Dr. Lois Wolfson, Dr. Jo Latimore, Terry Gibb, Bindu Bhakta and Eric Elgin. The program will provide expert information on how to be a good steward of your lake’s ecosystem. Topics will include an overview of lake ecology, natural shoreline practices, a ground water model, neighborhood collaboration, septic maintenance and aquatic invasive species. An optional water science boat tour will be offered at 3pm. To confirm a seat call HLF 989 275-9183 and leave your name and phone number or email HLF.

Look for neighborhood “PUMP FOR A CLEAN LAKE” dates in next week’s Resorter. Discounts will be available for septic system pump-outs during specific dates when neighborhoods work together to save truck trips to your homes.
